Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!

The Chittenden County Community Justice Center is actively seeking dedicated volunteers to support our restorative justice programs. At this time, we are specifically seeking volunteers for our Circles of Support and Accountability (COSA) programming, and Youth Restorative Justice processes.

We strongly encourage individuals from marginalized communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, youth, and others who bring diverse perspectives and lived experiences, to apply. If you are interested, please click the link below to complete an application; our team will review your submission, and if we move forward, you will be invited to attend our next volunteer training which will be taking place on January 19th and 20th from 3-7pm at the Chittenden County Community Justice Center on 176 S Winooski Ave, Suite 101 Burlington VT 05401. We look forward to learning more about you and the strengths you would bring to our community.

Here's some descriptions of the volunteer opportunities currently available, please indicate which you're interested in on the application.

Circles of Support and Accountability (COSA)

Circles of Support and Accountability (COSA) focuses on creating a community of support for someone returning to the community after incarceration.  Often those who have been incarcerated have difficulty with this transition and having a network available to build a stable, connected life leads to increased success and living a more positive life. Volunteers will meet weekly with a staff member and the participant, for a year to offer encouragement, build healthy relationships, and support accountability. Together, you’ll work through everyday challenges, celebrate progress, and support choices that help prevent further harm. Bring your life experience, an open mind, and a commitment to showing up—your consistent presence can make a meaningful difference. Along with the initial 8 hour Restorative Justice Training that the CJC provides, there is an additional 8 hour Dept. Of Corrections training specifically for COSA.

Youth Restorative Justice Processes

Interested in helping young people take responsibility, repair harm, and move forward with support from their community? Our youth programs bring young people, those affected by their actions, and community members into restorative processes that focus on understanding what happened and what is needed to make things right. Volunteers can support people who have been harmed, help facilitate conversations, and assist youth in following through on agreements to repair harm and build skills. We welcome volunteers with varied backgrounds and experiences who are ready to listen with curiosity, recognize young people’s potential, and support meaningful accountability.
